Assistant Professor – Bio‑Chemical Process Design

About the role

The successful candidate will design, simulate, implement and optimise chemical and biochemical processes, with a focus on continuous operations for the chemical, agricultural and biotechnological sectors. The position bridges R&D and entrepreneurship within a multidisciplinary, collaborative ecosystem at UM6P.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the group’s activities in chemical process design, simulation, implementation and optimisation at macro‑lab, pre‑pilot and pilot scales.
• Collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, external clients and partners.
• Supervise graduate students and post‑doctoral fellows, guiding their research progress.
• Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, invention disclosures and present results at conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in chemical, materials or mechanical engineering (or related) with a focus on process engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of R&D and process‑engineering experience, preferably in industry or academia.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary research groups and secure research funding.
• Strong publication record and experience in writing research proposals.

Required skills

• Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, gPROMS).
• In‑depth knowledge of bio‑chemical process equipment such as reactors, distillation columns, heat exchangers and associated piping.
• Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and PID control systems.
• Expertise in designing and scaling up continuous manufacturing processes.
