Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer

About the role

The STRIDES Morocco Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer will support the implementation of epidemiology and surveillance activities under the STRIDES Morocco Activity, a U.S. Department of State‑funded global health security program. Based in Rabat, the Officer will work closely with government counterparts to strengthen infectious disease detection and surveillance systems.

Key responsibilities

• Implement day‑to‑day country epidemiology and surveillance activities, including emerging infectious diseases, zoonotic diseases, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
• Provide technical support to government partners on developing and strengthening detection and surveillance systems.
• Maintain project protocols, data sets, manuals, training materials, and related reports.
• Conduct literature searches on evolving epidemiology and global health security topics.
• Support capacity‑building initiatives, develop and deliver training materials.
• Prepare technical briefs, tools, reports, and donor deliverables.
• Assist in cross‑sectoral surveillance strategy development and implementation.
• Participate in client/funder meetings and prepare presentations and reports.

Required profile

• Working knowledge of epidemiologic research and public health surveillance concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Familiarity with infectious disease detection systems, zoonotic disease surveillance, and AMR in the Moroccan and broader MENA context.
• Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and Arabic.
• Professional, articulate, and able to communicate clearly with clients and staff.
