Functional Safety Engineer

About the role

Scalian is looking for a Functional Safety Engineer to steer the complete functional safety lifecycle for steering systems. You will be responsible for planning, analyses, traceability, release evidence and audit‑ready reporting, applying a structured ISO 26262 / ASIL‑D mindset and strong safety argumentation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full functional safety lifecycle for steering systems, covering planning, analyses, traceability and release documentation.
• Moderate safety analyses, reviews and ensure alignment with suppliers.
• Document safety activities, evaluate issues and support release decisions.
• Create item definitions, HARA, safety concepts and safety cases.
• Perform FMEDA, FTA, DFA, FMEA and software hazard analyses.
• Maintain requirements traceability across system, hardware and software.
• Prepare reviews, assessments and release recommendations.
• Evaluate change requests, deviations and problem reports.
• Coordinate suppliers, stakeholders and ensure audit‑ready documentation.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in automotive functional safety.
• Experience with steering systems or other safety‑critical automotive systems.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 26262 processes, work products and compliance activities.
• Excellent analytical, communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multi‑disciplinary and international environment.
• Professional working proficiency in English (mandatory); German is a strong asset.
