Head of Primary & ELS

About the role

Khalil Gibran School (KGS), a British international school in Rabat founded in 1986, is seeking an experienced Head of Primary and ELS to join in August 2027. The post leads the Primary provision across two sites as one coherent phase: the Early Learning School (ELS) covers Early Years to Year 3, while Years 4 to 6 are at the Main Campus. The school offers the Moroccan curriculum and the Cambridge pathway to IGCSE and A Level, with learning in English, Arabic and French.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and hands-on leadership across ELS and the Main Campus Primary Section, establishing a shared vision, consistent expectations and a strong sense of identity.
• Lead by example in the classroom, model excellent primary teaching, coach colleagues and drive continuous professional development.
• Lead curriculum development, teaching, learning and assessment, ensuring strong progression and outcomes across the primary years.
• Work closely with the Deputy Head of Primary and ELS and Secondary school leaders to ensure a seamless learning journey from Early Years to Year 6 and a strong transition into Secondary.
• Oversee key transitions between Year 3 and Year 4, and from Year 6 into Secondary, ensuring continuity of learning and student support.
• Develop and support staff and middle leaders, promote safeguarding, inclusion, student wellbeing and positive behaviour, and build strong relationships with parents and the wider community.
• Oversee staffing, resources and the Primary budget effectively.

Required profile

• Degree and recognised teaching qualification, with substantial successful primary classroom teaching experience and a proven track record in primary leadership.
• Experience improving teaching quality, developing staff and driving measurable improvements in student outcomes.
• Ability to lead strategically, develop other leaders and maintain consistent standards across multiple sites.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with excellent spoken and written English.
• A warm, energetic, child-centred approach, with the resilience and organisational skills to lead a diverse team across two sites.
• An appreciation of Moroccan culture and a commitment to contributing positively to the KGS community.
• Advantageous: experience in an international or bilingual school, leading across multiple sites, and working within an all-through school.

Required skills

• Primary pedagogy, curriculum development and assessment, with particular strength in Key Stage 1 and 2.
• Early reading, phonics, writing and mathematics.
• Continuity of learning from Early Years through to Year 6.
• Additional advantages: leadership qualifications, instructional coaching training, safeguarding training at DSL level, and knowledge of French and/or Arabic.
