Investment Director, DRE Africa Platform

About the role

Africa50 is seeking an Investment Director to lead the Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) Africa Platform, a US$700+ million initiative under the World Bank’s Mission 300 programme. Based in Casablanca, the role will drive equity investments that expand renewable energy access across the continent.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and develop a pipeline of DRE investment opportunities using market intelligence and country‑specific expertise.
• Lead end‑to‑end execution of equity investments, focusing on bankable, high‑impact projects.
• Negotiate investment documentation with developers, financial institutions and government bodies.
• Conduct due diligence, financial modelling and risk assessment across all investment stages.
• Oversee portfolio company performance and create value.
• Maintain investor relationships and prepare timely reports.
• Lead and mentor project teams.
• Build relationships with DRE companies, multilateral partners and government officials.

Required profile

• Approximately 15 years of experience, with at least 8 years in equity investment at top‑tier institutions (investment banks, private equity, DFIs).
• Proven track record in the energy sector, ideally with DRE exposure.
• Experience leading and mentoring investment teams.
• Undergraduate degree from a top‑tier university; MBA or MSc is a plus.
• Strong connection to Africa by origin or demonstrated commitment.
• Impact‑driven mindset with a commitment to sustainable development.
