Laboratory Technical & Project Manager

About the role

The Laboratory Technical & Project Manager will lead the technical set‑up and operational excellence of SGS Morocco’s Energy & Chemicals laboratory. This role ensures compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, drives method validation, and supports the delivery of high‑quality testing services for petroleum and related products.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for all laboratory activities within the Energy & Chemicals Business Unit in Morocco.
• Oversee gasoline testing, blending operations, and fast‑track deployment of analytical methods and quality controls.
• Manage laboratory projects such as the Jorf Lasfar Petroleum Products Lab and the Transformer Oils & OCM Testing Lab.
• Act as the ISO/IEC 17025 quality‑system authority, handling method validation, equipment calibration, and best‑practice implementation.
• Develop, review, and implement SOPs, analytical methods, and quality‑control procedures.
• Lead technical training and competency development for chemists and technicians.
• Support procurement, installation, and validation of new laboratory equipment.
• Participate in client technical meetings, audits, and internal/external assessments.
• Ensure compliance with SGS HSE, Quality, Compliance, and Integrity standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in oil & gas laboratory management within testing, inspection and certification companies.
• Proven experience with CFR engine operations, calibration, and blending processes.
• Hands‑on experience in ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, laboratory set‑up and project management.

Required skills

• Petroleum product testing (gasoline, gasoil, fuel oil, marine distillates, residual fuels, lubricants, transformer oils, LNG/LPG).
• CFR Octane/Cetane engine operation.
• Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS).
• Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP‑OES).
• Gas Chromatography (GC).
• UV‑Vis Fluorescence (UVF).
• High‑Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
• Reformulyzer.
• ISO/IEC 17025 quality‑system implementation.
• Method validation and equipment calibration.
• SOP development and technical training.
