Microalgae Laboratory Culture Officer

About the role

We are seeking a Microalgae Laboratory Culture Officer to manage the cultivation of micro‑algae in semi‑closed photobioreactors. The role ensures optimal culture performance, product quality, and traceability while supporting biomass production in a compliant laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare sterile culture media and maintain aseptic conditions.
• Operate and monitor microalgae cultures in semi‑closed photobioreactors.
• Measure and analyse process parameters such as pH, salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity and optical density.
• Perform inoculations, sampling, microscopy, cell counting and contamination control.
• Assist with biomass harvesting, drying and packaging operations.
• Record production data, generate activity reports and ensure documentation compliance.
• Carry out quality‑control activities in line with SOPs, HACCP, GLP and ONSSA requirements.
• Collaborate with Production and Maintenance teams to optimise operational performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (Bac+3) in Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology or a related field.
• 1–3 years of experience in a laboratory, biotechnology or industrial production setting.
• Knowledge of microalgae cultivation, photobioreactor operation, microscopy and laboratory quality control.
• Strong analytical, organisational and communication abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
