Network Support Engineer – Hands‑and‑Feet Onsite Role

About the role

The Network Support Engineer provides hands‑and‑feet onsite assistance to enable remote troubleshooting and remediation of enterprise network equipment. The role involves physical interaction with switches, routers, firewalls and related infrastructure under the guidance of a remote support team.

Key responsibilities

• Connect to console ports of network devices and grant remote access sessions as instructed.
• Open racks, locate devices/ports, power‑cycle equipment, and perform visual verification of LEDs, link status, alarms and cabling condition.
• Mount and unmount network devices following site safety rules and perform basic cable patching and dressing.
• Execute step‑by‑step command sequences for initial configuration such as setting management IP or VLAN when explicitly approved.
• Coordinate with the Remote Support Team for post‑installation verification and documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, Network Engineering or related field (preferred).
• At least 2 years of hands‑on experience supporting enterprise network infrastructure.
• Ability to follow technical instructions accurately and work independently at customer sites.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with excellent communication.
• Willingness to travel to customer locations and hold Working at Heights and Medical Fitness certificates.

Required skills

• Console connectivity and use of console software (e.g., PuTTY).
• Rack mounting/unmounting and structured cabling.
• Basic network configuration (management IP, VLAN).
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, switches, routers and firewalls.
• Familiarity with Cisco, Juniper, HPE/Aruba, Fortinet and Palo Alto equipment.
• Understanding of ITIL processes and ticketing systems.
