Operations Manager - Oil, Gas & Chemicals

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and optimise our Oil, Gas & Chemicals operations at SGS. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient and high‑quality service delivery while maintaining strong customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all operational activities, translating business strategy into operational plans, budgets and performance targets.
• Manage, coach and develop Supervisors, Coordinators and Inspectors, handling recruitment, onboarding and performance management.
• Plan workforce and allocate resources for routine, urgent and after‑hours operations to ensure service continuity.
• Oversee inspection, sampling, measurement, documentation and reporting to meet contractual, regulatory and quality requirements.
• Support new project and client contract implementation through operational readiness, risk assessment and execution planning.
• Build and maintain client relationships, manage service issues, escalations and corrective actions.
• Monitor performance via audits, field observations and data analysis to drive continuous improvement.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures, work instructions and control systems.
• Control operational expenditure, resource utilisation and subcontractor performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum, Chemistry, Engineering, Marine Studies, Logistics, Operations Management or related field.
• Minimum 8 years experience in oil, gas & chemicals inspection, testing, terminals or marine cargo operations.
• At least 3 years in a supervisory or management position.
• Strong commercial awareness, customer orientation and fluency in English and French.
• Willingness to support operations outside standard working hours.
