Postdoctoral Researcher in Spatial Data Science

About the role

A research institute is looking for a postdoctoral researcher specializing in urban modeling and cost analysis. The goal is to build an innovative model estimating the direct and indirect costs of urbanization based on urban morphology (compact or sprawling). The candidate will analyze real case studies, integrate infrastructure, health and environmental variables, and simulate scenarios under different climatic and social contexts to support sustainable urban planning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a predictive model integrating the direct and indirect costs of urbanization.
• Calibrate the model using real data from specific case studies.
• Simulate urbanization costs across climatic, morphological and social scenarios.
• Formulate innovative methodological approaches.
• Produce publications in scientific journals.
• Participate in teaching activities.
• Develop new research proposals.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Data Science, Urban Planning, Urban Economics or a related field.
• Experience in research projects applied to urban, environmental or socio-economic issues.
• Publications in scientific journals.
• Fluency in French and English, oral and written.
• Interest in African issues; ambition for research excellence and entrepreneurial mindset.

Required skills

• Urban modeling tools such as MATLAB, Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, GeoPandas) and R.
• Predictive modeling and machine learning, especially for multi-variable simulations.
• Complex systems modeling applied to urban dynamics.

What we offer

• Excellent working conditions and a competitive international salary.
• An opportunity to contribute to research excellence in Africa.
• A highly stimulating multicultural environment and a great team atmosphere.
