Postdoctoral Researcher in Urban Water Management and Hydric Resilience

About the role

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), a research-driven institution in Benguerir's Green City, is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in Urban Water Management and Hydric Resilience. The candidate will design and implement solutions for sustainable urban water resource management, integrating environmental, social and economic factors to strengthen urban resilience to water-related challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Develop models to simulate urban water flows, assess climate change impacts and test solutions such as green infrastructure.
• Use digital tools (GIS, hydrological models) to analyse and visualise urban flood risks, droughts and water flows.
• Assess the effects of water management strategies on costs, environmental sustainability and social benefits, and provide tailored recommendations.
• Collaborate with urban planners, engineers and policymakers to embed water management solutions in urban development and sustainability policies.
• Publish research in high-impact journals, present at conferences and share knowledge with policymakers and communities.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in hydrology, environmental engineering, urban planning or a related field.
• Expertise in urban hydrology, water cycles and stormwater management.
• Strong background in flood and drought risk assessment in urban environments.
• Track record of publishing in high-impact journals and presenting at international conferences.
• Fluency in written and spoken French and English.

Required skills

• Hydrological modelling software (SWMM, HEC-RAS or equivalent).
• GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial analysis and mapping of water flows and risk zones.
• Climate adaptation simulations applied to water management.
• Ability to turn complex data into actionable insights and to work in multidisciplinary teams.
