Professor in Economic Geology (Base and Precious-Metal Deposits)

About the role

The Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (GSMI) of the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) is recruiting a full-time Professor in Economic Geology, specializing in base and precious-metal deposits. The appointment is at the Professor level depending on the candidate's CV and past experience, with an expected start as soon as possible. The position targets internationally renowned candidates.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field and analytical research on base and precious-metal deposits (Cu, Ni, Sn, Pb, Zn, Au, Ag, Pt and similar), including magmatic, metamorphic and basin-hosted deposits such as MVT, SEDEX and Carlin-type deposits.
• Teach at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels and build a teaching programme at the interface of geology and mineral resources.
• Design, coordinate and organise scientific events and research projects, and establish funded research programmes.
• Develop partnerships with industry and state entities.
• Work in teams of geoscientists and engineers to advance ore exploration and valorisation, and lead grant-funded research.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Geology of Base and Precious-Metal Deposits, metallogeny, economic geology or a related field.
• Proven record of high-impact publications in top-ranked, field-relevant journals, conference presentations, awards and other activities that raise the profile of the discipline.
• Experience in a team of geoscientists and engineers; strong written and verbal communication and academic self-management.
• A strong background in African geology and related metal ores is a significant advantage.

Required skills

• Research and teaching plans, with evidence of sustained high-impact research.
• Ability to manage third-party funded projects and to lead academic and scientific leadership.
