Teacher Aid - Temporary Cover

About the role

The Preschool Teacher Assistant provides essential support to the lead teacher, helping to create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for young children. This temporary cover position assists with classroom management, lesson preparation and individualised support, ensuring the preschool’s educational goals are met.

Key responsibilities

• Support classroom instruction by assisting the lead teacher with daily lesson plans and educational games.
• Supervise children during classroom activities, playtime, meals and outdoor periods to ensure safety and positive behaviour.
• Reinforce classroom rules and help guide children in developing social and emotional skills.
• Prepare and organise learning materials, resources and displays to facilitate hands‑on learning.
• Maintain a clean and hazard‑free environment, including sanitising toys and equipment.
• Provide one‑on‑one or small‑group assistance to children needing extra help or emotional support.
• Observe children’s development and report notable progress or concerns to the lead teacher.
• Assist with daily routines such as arrivals, departures, toileting, meals and rest time, promoting independence.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent (required).
• Completion of a TKT training course.
• Prior experience working with young children in an educational or care setting (preferred).
