Telecommunication Systems Engineer

About the role

Aerospacelab, which designs and manufactures small satellites and develops earth observation services, is looking for a Telecommunication Systems Engineer. The role covers satellite communication systems, RF link budgets and performance assessment, and works with RF, electrical, software, FPGA and network teams. It is open to all offices and remote work, on a permanent basis.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse satellite communication systems (beam size and number, bandwidth, coverage, capacity, throughput).
• Develop RF link budgets and run performance assessments with custom simulation tools.
• Design modulation, coding and multiplexing techniques for reliable satellite links.
• Work with designers and the customer on high-level architecture and support the whole development chain: requirements, architecture, design, manufacturing, integration, test and operations.
• Collaborate with RF, electrical, software, FPGA and network teams, and support design reviews for requirements and interface compliance.
• Review designs with external telecommunication system providers, resolve issues and define integration and test approaches.
• Run in-lab tests and on-orbit performance validation with spectrum analyzers, network analyzers and signal generators.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in Electrical, Telecommunication, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in telecommunication systems, RF electronics or antennas.
• Knowledge of telecommunication payloads and at least one standard (e.g. DVB-S2X, DVB-RCS2, 5G, CCSDS).
• Ability to work autonomously across teams and companies on multi-disciplinary projects.
• Good communication skills and fluency in English.

Required skills

• Nice to have: frequency coordination (ITU, FCC), satellite constellation experience, RF analysis tools such as SystemView, SDR and DSP knowledge, RF subsystems (transponders, antennas, amplifiers, SSPA), interference analysis, Python scripting and space industry experience.
