Head Butler

About the role

The Head Butler oversees daily shift operations for housekeeping, the health club and, where applicable, laundry services at a hotel property. Reporting to senior management, this role ensures guest rooms, public areas and employee zones are clean, well‑maintained and meet the brand’s standards while controlling operating costs.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and supervise housekeeping staff during each shift, ensuring compliance with policies, standards and procedures.
• Inspect guest rooms and public spaces daily, communicate room status to the front desk, and assign work based on occupancy and check‑out lists.
• Manage inventory of cleaning supplies, verify adequate stock, and control departmental budgets to meet financial targets.
• Conduct training for new room attendants, schedule staff according to business demand, and monitor attendance and time‑keeping.
• Administer property policies fairly, handle disciplinary actions, and maintain accurate documentation per SOPs.
• Lead employee recognition programs, provide performance feedback, and foster a collaborative work environment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with at least two years of housekeeping or related experience, OR a two‑year degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration or a related field.
• Strong understanding of housekeeping operations, budgeting and inventory control.
• Ability to supervise staff, conduct inspections and ensure guest satisfaction.
