Librarian

About the role

The Librarian will lead the creation and management of a new school library serving both Primary and Secondary (Cambridge) students. This role involves establishing a welcoming, well‑organised learning space that supports curriculum‑aligned teaching, independent research and reading for pleasure.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and organise the library, including cataloguing resources and implementing a library management system.
• Develop library policies, borrowing procedures and digital integration in partnership with ICT.
• Support teachers by sourcing age‑appropriate, curriculum‑aligned materials and promoting information literacy.
• Plan and run reading events such as book fairs, author visits and themed literacy days.
• Guide students in research skills, referencing and effective use of information sources.
• Collaborate with Heads of Department and budget holders to acquire new materials that align with the Cambridge curriculum and school ethos.
• Maintain accurate records of inventory, loans and usage, and regularly review the collection for relevance.
• Communicate library services to students, staff and parents and support school‑wide literacy initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong initiative, creativity and excellent organisational abilities.
• Experience in setting up or managing a library environment, preferably in an educational setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators and ICT staff.
• Commitment to fostering a love of reading and supporting student research.
