Assistant Pastry Chef

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Pastry Chef to support the Executive Pastry Chef aboard our cruise ship. The role involves supervising the pastry team, ensuring high‑quality products, and maintaining strict food‑safety standards while delivering an exceptional guest experience.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Pastry Chef in supervising pastry team members and enforcing company policies.
• Coach, support, evaluate and report on the performance of direct reports together with the Executive Pastry Chef.
• Maintain quality and consistency of taste according to corporate recipes and visual standards.
• Set up pastry displays for buffets and teatime service.
• Ensure compliance with United States Public Health Rules and Regulations throughout the operation.
• Oversee the pastry galley cleaning schedule and proper equipment handling.
• Monitor staff punctuality, uniform standards and personal hygiene.
• Track food production, record leftovers and control waste to stay within budget.
• Prepare food requisitions, receive deliveries and store items according to health regulations.
• Participate in USPH inspections, meetings, training sessions and any additional duties assigned by supervisors.

Required profile

• Minimum two years’ experience as a Pastry Chef or equivalent in an upscale hotel, resort, cruise ship or convention banqueting service (shipboard experience preferred).
• Culinary school degree.
• Strong management abilities in a multicultural, dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving, decision‑making and interpersonal skills.
• Superior customer service, team‑building and conflict‑resolution capabilities.
