Postdoctoral Fellow – African Digital Humanities (Manuscript & Philology)

About the role

The postdoctoral fellow will join the Kamara Portal project at a formative stage, contributing to the creation of a manuscript‑based digital research platform focused on the works of Shaykh Musa Kamara (1864–1945). The role blends close philological analysis with collaborative digital inquiry to produce a pilot multilingual digital edition and commentary interface.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a pilot multilingual digital edition and commentary interface for Kamara’s major historical work.
• Conduct close philological interpretation of manuscript and print sources.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to integrate digital humanities methods.
• Manage metadata and digital assets related to the corpus.
• Contribute to research outputs, including publications and presentations.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent in Digital Humanities, African Studies, Manuscript Studies, Philology, or a closely related field.
• Strong background in textual criticism, manuscript analysis, and historical reasoning.
• Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments.
• Ability to communicate research findings in English.
