Job description
About the role
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Benguerir, Morocco, is recruiting an Assistant Professor in Chemical Thermodynamics for its Materials Science and Nano-engineering (MSN) department, within the Energy Transition Cluster. The position is permanent and involves independent research, teaching and supervision.
Key responsibilities
- Develop independent research programs in solution chemistry, aligned with the Energy Transition Cluster roadmap, covering gas absorption/desorption thermodynamics and kinetics, advanced solvents, solubility and speciation of gases such as CO2 and SO2, electrochemical and photocatalytic conversion of captured gases, and modelling of equilibria and mass transfer.
- Publish in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, present at national and international conferences, and pursue external research funding through grant proposals.
- Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in solution chemistry, chemical thermodynamics and gas-liquid interactions across bachelor, doctoral training and executive education programmes; the annual teaching load is 100 hours.
- Supervise master's and PhD students and advise them on courses, research direction, internships and careers.
- Build partnerships with faculty, research institutions and industry, and contribute to strategic research initiatives in the cluster.
Required profile
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry or a closely related field, with a strong focus on solution chemistry and gas-liquid interactions.
- Experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in chemical thermodynamics, solution chemistry or gas capture, in French and English; teaching assistant or instructor roles are acceptable.
- Extensive experience in chemical thermodynamics, solubility studies and reaction kinetics for gas absorption and desorption.
- Proven independent research record with publications in high-impact journals.
- Preferred: more than 5 years of experience in solution chemistry and gas capture, and a track record of grant writing and project leadership.
Required skills
- Spectroscopic and analytical techniques such as NMR, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
- Computational tools and simulation software for modelling chemical equilibria and mass transfer.
To apply, candidates must submit a cover letter, CV, list of publications and the names and contact details of three external referees, along with letters of recommendation from peers in the discipline.
