Backend Engineer – Independent Contractor (Morocco)

About the role

As a Backend Engineer you will build and scale the infrastructure that powers nsave’s financial services. Working closely with the CTO and the engineering team, you will own critical backend subsystems, ensuring reliability, security, and compliance for thousands of users across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and own core infrastructure components, including service architecture, reliability, build/release pipelines, and integration with compliance and banking services.
• Proactively improve system health by identifying weak spots in the codebase and infrastructure and prioritising fixes.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to ship features across multiple markets.
• Contribute to engineering best practices, code quality, and process improvements as the platform scales.

Required profile

• Strong engineering fundamentals with knowledge of clean architecture, layered abstractions, and complexity trade‑offs.
• Broad platform knowledge across backend architecture, databases, site reliability, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD.
• Security‑mindset capable of designing robust financial systems that meet high compliance standards.
• Business‑oriented decision‑making, balancing speed with quality.
• Ability to operate independently in a fast‑moving environment; startup or fintech experience is strongly preferred.
