Investment Principal, Principal Investment Fund

About the role

Africa50 is a specialist investor in African infrastructure, having raised over US$1 billion from African countries, the African Development Bank, African central banks and Africa's largest pension fund. Its Principal Investment Fund team makes direct minority equity investments in late-stage infrastructure projects and growth platforms, sponsors and manages investments in Africa50-sponsored funds, and seeds investment companies to underwrite sector strategies. The Investment Principal drives the full deal life cycle, from origination to execution and portfolio management, for both direct and indirect investments, supervising analysts and associates.

Key responsibilities

• Build a strong pipeline of investment opportunities using market trend anticipation and sector/country knowledge
• Oversee financial models and investment memoranda, develop investment hypotheses and present them to the Investment Committee
• Coordinate due diligence and manage external consultants
• Draft and negotiate key documents such as shareholders' agreements and share subscription agreements
• Supervise portfolio companies, support their management teams and monitor ESG standards
• Seek exit opportunities and build relationships with key players in African infrastructure

Required profile

• 8 to 10 years of finance experience, with at least 4 in private equity or project finance
• End-to-end deal experience in power, midstream gas, transport or digital infrastructure
• Deep networks across emerging markets, including Africa
• MBA or MSc Finance
• Ability to work independently with senior management, sponsors, developers, partners and government officials
