Postdoctoral Fellow: Process Mineralogy, Mineral Processing and AI

About the role

A 12-month postdoctoral fellowship (renewable for another 12 months) is offered to a researcher who will lead work on improving phosphate recovery from flotation tailings. The project sits at the intersection of process mineralogy, mineral processing and artificial intelligence, in a collaboration between the Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute (UM6P, Morocco) and Mineral-X (Stanford University, USA). The start date is as soon as possible.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out process-mineralogical characterisation of the feed, concentrate and flotation tailings.
• Test the effectiveness of different grinding energies on phosphate liberation within flotation tailings.
• Develop an AI-driven intelligent framework to optimise grinding time so that phosphate liberation is enhanced with minimum slime generation.
• Design laboratory flotation tests to optimise process parameters.

Required profile

• PhD in process mineralogy, mineral processing, mining, chemical or geological engineering, or a related field with mining/mineral processing experience.
• Knowledge of process mineralogy and froth flotation gained through research, coursework or job experience.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and strong written and oral communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in programming (Python, Julia), with evidence of use in specific examples.
• Experience with statistical modelling and experimental design.
