Postdoctoral Researcher in Modeling and Quantitative Analysis for Water Management

About the role

University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in modeling and quantitative analysis for efficient water management at the farm scale in semi-arid regions. The project aims to develop a scalable, cost-effective distributed water capture and storage solution that minimizes evaporation, using local storage facilities for stormflow water for irrigation. The research combines numerical and analytical techniques, simulations and analysis of experimental data, and improves a coupled numerical model of surface and subsurface flows using finite volume methods and physics-informed neural networks.

Key responsibilities

• Develop numerical techniques and implement codes.
• Collect data from Hydraulic Basin Agencies in Morocco.
• Calibrate and validate the coupled numerical model.
• Perform numerical simulations in different regions of Morocco.
• Study the proposed solution of storing stormflow water for irrigation in semi-arid regions and identify where it is cost effective.
• Write and contribute to scientific articles and reports.
• Contribute to research projects and funding applications.

Required profile

• PhD in engineering, applied physics, applied mathematics or a related field.
• Fluent oral and written English.
• Enjoys collaborative work and interdisciplinary research; strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Required skills

• Strong quantitative skills and modeling.
• Advanced coding skills.
