Postdoctoral Researcher – Urban Water Management & Hydric Resilience

About the role

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to advance urban water management and hydric resilience. The successful candidate will develop innovative, data‑driven solutions that integrate environmental, social, and economic dimensions to strengthen city‑wide water systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and run models that simulate urban water flows, evaluate climate‑change impacts, and test green‑infrastructure interventions.
• Apply GIS and hydrological modeling tools to map flood and drought risks, and visualise water‑resource dynamics.
• Analyse the cost, sustainability, and social implications of water‑management strategies and provide actionable recommendations.
• Collaborate with urban planners, engineers, and policymakers to embed water‑management solutions into development plans.
• Publish findings in high‑impact journals, present at international conferences, and communicate results to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in hydrology, environmental engineering, urban planning or a related discipline.
• Strong expertise in urban hydrology, storm‑water management, and flood/drought risk assessment.
• Experience with climate‑adaptation simulations applied to water resources.
• Fluency in English and French (written and spoken).
• Demonstrated record of publishing in high‑impact journals and presenting at conferences.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hydrological modeling software such as SWMM or HEC‑RAS.
• Advanced GIS skills using ArcGIS or QGIS.
