Senior Legal Counsel Manager - Renewable Energy

About the role

A renewable energy company based in Morocco is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel / Legal Director to lead its legal affairs. The role covers legal matters for renewable energy and infrastructure projects across several international markets, from contract drafting and negotiation to dispute resolution, project financing and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage legal matters for renewable energy and infrastructure projects across multiple international markets.
• Draft, review and negotiate project and commercial agreements such as PPAs, EPC, O&M, equipment supply, land and interconnection contracts.
• Manage the full contract lifecycle, from term sheets and negotiations through execution, amendments, claims and post-signing matters.
• Support project financing and investment transactions, and advise on regulatory and compliance issues such as permitting, foreign investment, land, regulatory approvals and local-content requirements.
• Support JVs, SPVs, consortiums and strategic partnerships, and M&A and investment transactions including due diligence and structuring.
• Manage disputes, claims and arbitration, and coordinate with external counsel.
• Develop the contract management framework, templates, standard clauses and approval procedures, and build the internal legal team as the business grows.
• Manage relationships with external law firms and support compliance initiatives such as anti-bribery and corruption, sanctions, export controls and data protection.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law or equivalent qualification, admitted to practice as a qualified lawyer.
• Admission to the bar in a major commercial jurisdiction preferred.
• More than 8 years of post-qualification legal experience.
• Strong experience in renewable energy, energy, infrastructure or related sectors.
• Experience with an international law firm and/or as in-house counsel for a renewable energy developer, IPP, utility or investment firm preferred.
• Fluent English; French strongly preferred, Arabic, English or Mandarin an advantage.

Required skills

• Strong experience negotiating major commercial and project agreements.
• Hands-on experience with PPAs and other energy offtake agreements highly preferred.
• Solid experience with EPC, O&M, equipment supply, land and interconnection agreements.
• Experience supporting project financing transactions and cross-border project work.
