Flavourist II – Develop Innovative Flavour Solutions

About the role

British American Tobacco UK is seeking a Flavourist II to join its Southampton team. The role will apply flavour science, sensory expertise and data‑driven methods to create differentiated flavour systems that give BAT a competitive edge across its product portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver differentiated flavour solutions aligned with consumer preference, product and brand requirements.
• Develop and optimise flavours for specific product platforms while ensuring technical performance and regulatory compliance.
• Own end‑to‑end flavour development from concept through scale‑up, guaranteeing robustness, consistency and manufacturability.
• Accelerate delivery using rapid prototyping, test‑and‑learn approaches and data‑driven decision‑making, including digital and AI tools.
• Capture structured data, document outcomes and enable knowledge reuse for traceability and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally and with external partners to meet timelines, balancing speed and risk.
• Lead co‑creation with external flavour suppliers to leverage innovation and enhance differentiation.
• Translate consumer insights into sensory targets while protecting proprietary flavour IP.

Required profile

• Proven experience in flavour creation and sensory science across product categories such as vapour, modern oral, food & beverage.
• Ability to translate consumer insights into flavour designs and meet regulatory requirements.
• Strong data‑driven mindset with experience using digital and AI tools for flavour development.
• Excellent collaboration skills with internal teams and external suppliers.
• Track record of delivering robust, scalable flavour solutions.
