Design Engineer - Automotive BIW, Interior and Exterior

About the role

AVL is looking for a Design Engineer to design and develop 3D components and assemblies for BIW, interior and/or exterior applications. The role covers sheet metal and plastic parts, integration and packaging, and supports design reviews and documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop 3D components and assemblies for BIW, interior and/or exterior applications.
• Develop sheet metal and/or plastic components according to automotive design standards and rules.
• Ensure component integration and packaging within the vehicle environment.
• Define and optimise interfaces, mounting concepts, fastening systems and functional clearances.
• Perform feasibility, clash and integration analyses.
• Create and update 2D technical drawings, including functional dimensioning and GD&T, and carry out tolerance stack-up analyses when required.
• Consider manufacturing and assembly constraints, including DFM/DFA principles.
• Support design reviews and propose technical solutions for product optimisation.
• Manage CAD data, engineering changes and technical documentation within the PLM environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Product Design or a related field.
• Professional experience in automotive mechanical design, preferably in BIW, interior and/or exterior development.
• Experience in sheet metal and/or plastic part design.
• Knowledge of GD&T, ISO dimensioning and tolerance stack-up principles.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes such as sheet metal forming, stamping, injection moulding and assembly.
• Experience with PLM systems.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills, and ability to work in an international, multidisciplinary environment.

Required skills

• CAD systems such as CATIA V5/V6, Creo and 3DEXPERIENCE
• GD&T, ISO dimensioning and tolerance stack-up
• PLM systems
