Senior Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer

About the role

The Senior Epidemiology and Surveillance Officer will support the STRIDES Morocco activity, a U.S. Department of State‑funded global health security program. Based in Rabat, the officer provides technical assistance to government counterparts to strengthen infectious disease detection and surveillance systems.

Key responsibilities

• Implement day‑to‑day epidemiology and surveillance activities for emerging infectious diseases, zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
• Provide technical direction to project staff and partners, and build capacity through training and mentorship.
• Maintain project protocols, data sets, manuals and reporting tools, ensuring alignment with national priorities and international best practices.
• Develop technical briefs, reports and guidelines, and contribute to donor reporting and annual workplans.
• Collaborate with national ministries, especially the Ministry of Health, to design cross‑sectoral surveillance frameworks.
• Monitor technical work plans and budgets, and identify improvement opportunities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or a related field.
• At least 6 years of experience in epidemiology, surveillance or public health, with documented work in Morocco.
• Proven record of producing technical reports, guidelines or tools for disease surveillance.
• Experience with USG‑funded or global health security projects is an advantage.

• Capacity‑building and technical training.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint and video‑conferencing tools (Skype/Zoom/Teams).
• Fluent in French, Arabic and English (written and spoken).
