Staff Software Engineer (SDET)

About the role

Circles is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to lead quality engineering for its backend systems. You will combine software development and testing to improve testability, robustness, and performance of production code while mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement automation frameworks for API and UI testing, ensuring scalability and stability.
• Collaborate with product, QA, CI/CD, and SRE teams to define testing strategies and integrate automated tests into deployment pipelines.
• Generate test cases using AI‑assisted tools and maintain multi‑environment test data.
• Perform manual functional testing when required and drive non‑functional testing such as performance and security.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in quality engineering with a focus on test automation.
• Strong ability to debug, perform root‑cause analysis, and mentor junior SDETs.
• Willingness to work extended hours during critical product launches.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Java; knowledge of Golang and NodeJS is a plus.
• Experience with Selenium, REST Assured, Appium, TestNG.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Maven.
• Knowledge of SQL, NoSQL databases, message queues, and caching technologies.
• Understanding of SDLC/STLC, Agile processes, and test strategy definition.
